Why we've succeeded

We've grown into the foremost international academic jobsite by doing simple things, and by always trying to do those simple things well.

As a result we have established a reputation for effectiveness. We deliver the jobs our jobseekers want, and the jobseekers our clients need.

Ours may not be the most high-tech site in the world. We don't have bells and whistles. And nor do we have 100,000 jobs and 1,000,000 visitors.

But we are the specialist site for the global academic community.

All our jobseekers are interested in academic, research, and related positions.

And all our advertisers are interested in hiring that kind of jobseeker.

It's that simple.

Our jobseekers are Number One

They are our main focus. We know that if we can make it easy for them to find the jobs they are interested in, to read the key details, to find more information if they need to, and to make an application, then they will use the site now and in the future.

And if we can guarantee to deliver a qualified group of jobseekers who are loyal and active users of the site, then our clients will be happy too, because they know they are going to reach a great selection of candidates.

So, to make everyone's life easier, we abide by the following principles:

  • Our site is simple to navigate, which means our jobseekers can quickly see what's available and find what they need. We aim to feature all the types of clients that they would like to work for, and none of the ones that they wouldn't!
  • All our jobs are presented consistently. We use our own team of inputters (many of whom are graduate students) to ensure consistency of format, classification and quality - something which is impossible if you allow clients to input their own ads. Plus, it's easier for the client. All they have to do is send us an e-mail or a web link and we take responsibility for presenting their ad to best advantage. Classifying similar jobs in the same way, all the time, is particularly important for the large number of our jobseekers who have asked us to e-mail them only certain types of positions. They need to know that they will always receive every position which meets their specification.
  • All our ads are for genuine jobs. You can always clearly see the advertiser and the start and end date for the recruitment process. We allow no anonymous ads, and carry no ads where the closing date has been and gone, so our jobseekers know they will not have their time wasted when they apply for one of our jobs.

We don't try to do everything, but we do try to do the simple things well.
